A month before releasing her debut record under her crafted stage name, Lana del Rey , Elizabeth Grant released the title track as the second single for 2012’s Born to Die . Her first record was released on an indie label which eventually was pulled from distribution. Del Rey, at the time known as Del Ray, claimed the label lacked funding. After the album’s release, the singer took to refining her image and writing for her major-label debut. The video for the first single, “ Video Games ,” went viral after its release in June of 2011. Pitchfork ranked the song as the ninth best song of 2011. “Born to Die” was released in December and introduced listeners to themes of both the album and Lana del Rey’s career, even better than her first single. THE ROAD IS LONG, WE CARRY ON/ TRY TO HAVE FUN IN THE MEANTIME. The album Born to Die set up Lana del Rey as an old-soul hipster pop singer. The singer didn’t have much in common with the pop singers of the the early ‘10s other than a few ly

On October 1st this year, signs and wonders and rumors of a fourth album by international superstar Adele appeared around the globe. The singer has been dropping hints of a new record since 2019; however, the recording process was delayed in 2020 due to the pandemic. Adele is a relatively reclusive pop star, taking long breaks between albums and rarely offering fans singles in between. In 2020, she emerged 100 lbs lighter, flexing her acting and comedy muscles hosting Saturday Night Live . Fans were shocked at her acting range as she wasn’t even the musical featured guest. But in true Adele fashion, the British singer kept a low profile after the comedy performance until this Fall. Billboards and holographic writing appeared on the Empire State Building, at the Louvre, and the side of the Colosseum among other landmarks with the number 30. Adele fans around the world began to speculate about the singer’s follow up to her Diamond-certified 2015 masterpiece, 25 . I KNOW THERE’S HOPE I

“2002WorldCup” by Hyukoh, Monday, August 2, 2021

Singer and guitarist Oh Hyuk (오혁) was raised in Northern China to parents who worked as professors. His dream was to be a musician, which was vehemently opposed by his parents. In his teens, he tried out for the three major labels in South Korea, but turned them down, citing musical differences. Oh Hyuk felt more aligned with indie rockers and listened to The Beatles and German-Norwegian band The Whitest Boy Alive . The young musician would go on to write vague lyrics as social commentary and about history, topics commercially unviable in the Korean pop scene. Moving to back to South Korea for college and dropping out, Oh's parents stopped supporting him. He was Bob Dylan's Rolling Stone--the birth of all good rockers: penniless and full of passion for music itself. WHEN YOU'RE NAKED (I'LL BE COMING THROUGH) . Like most indie music in Korea, Hyukoh started in Hongdae, the hip-college down located between several major private universities in Seoul. Oh Hyuk started as a

“Hello” by Adele, Friday, April 30, 2021

Today's song needs very little introduction. Most of the time I pick pretty obscure music for my playlists, sometimes even having to add the lyrics or even create the artist's Genius page. However, 2015's " Hello " is a song that everyone's mom and grand-mother knows. Furthermore, Adele is pretty much one of the least controversial figures in pop music, as shown masterfully in an SNL sketch.   "Hello" is definitely meme-worthy. Six years after its release, the emotion of the song has long since felt cliche; however, some days a cliche is really the best thing to describe your feelings. IT'S NO SECRET THAT THE BOTH OF US ARE RUNNING OUT OF TIME. Today, I woke up to the news that my dad had had a mini-stroke and was in the hospital. After a trip to the emergency room, he was discharged and given some instructions to come back to see a specialist and to make some lifestyle changes. This is all happening on the other side of the world, and with the
