Today is the third entry from Shura 's Nothing's Real album. In an interview at Austin City Limits in 2019 , Shura said that her mother said that her mother said of her first album "It gets better the more you listen to it," which Shura and the interviewer lightheartedly took as a  criticism of the singer-songwriter's 2016 album. I agree with Shura's mother, but not as a criticism of the album. It was great the summers of 2016 and 2017 when I first enjoyed Nothing's Real . But the album was more than just a song fleeting song of the summer. To me, it gets better every time I listen to it.  IF YOU LET ME DOWN, LET ME DOWN SLOW. " Take Cover " is the opening track to Acceptance 's debut and almost final album, Phantoms . It starts with a piano loop and adds momentum with the drums. Jason Vena 's smooth vocals hit a high register which puts the band on good emo footing for the time, as a singer who could whine a few lines was essential for a band that makes it. Listening to Phantoms again today--as I've talked about this album at least three times before--I thought about one of the fatal flaws of the record: the track order. Even though, I think that this album is a perfect artifact of my last two years in high school, I can kind of see why this band wasn't huge, and it has to do with track listing of this album.   Today, we’ll revisit high school in a playlist The Angsty Aughts. This playlist will compile and celebrate the Emo songs I’ve blogged about. For this list, I’ve decided to focus on scene music from 2003-2009. I’m sure that a second generation of Emo featuring Olivia Rodrigo and Goody Grace will be a post in the future.   In February I talked about my history with this album, how I first heard the song " Permanent " on RadioU then I heard " This Conversation Is Over " sung in Simlish in The Sims 2: University . I bought this album in hopes of hearing the English version of "This Conversation," and did this album deliver. Last year, "This Conversation" was a go-to song for the hard days of dealing with supervisors who hadn't a clue about teaching during a pandemic, but took it on themselves to distribute more work to justify our teaching positions. In 2021, the worst of it may be over, but the occasional skirmish where manipulation and a power trip leave me speechless for a bit, making me choose my next words carefully. At which time, I usually say, "I'm not agreeing to that. Thank you for calling. Goodbye," and hang up the inter-office phone. I have to fight back the innumerable words that could get me fired. One rainy day in March 2005, I saw Acceptance 's Phantoms in Walmart's Pop/Rock section. I picked up the album and wondered who this band was. I looked at the back and saw the track listing. There was a song titled "This Conversation Is Over," which was the same name as one of the songs on The Sims 2 University  expansion pack. Could it be the same group? I rarely bought albums without listening to them first. That's why I have so many Christian Rock albums. The Family Christian Store had a sample CD for almost every album sold in their stores. However, albums sold in major retailers might let you preview a few of the songs. I don't think the preview was available for this album. Nevertheless, I bought this album and put it into the fickle CD player in my 1991 Toyota Corolla. Immediately it became one of the most played albums of the next two years along with Anberlin's Never Take Friendship Personal, Falling Up's Crashings and Dawn Escapes , Day of F
