Last year, RIIZE (라이즈) debuted on SM Entertainment with their single “ Memories ” from the single Get a Guitar . The group was comprised of seven members until a scandal broke out with Hong Seunghan (홍승한) who was placed on an indefinite hiatus from the group. The boy band has released four singles so far, with January 5’s “ Love 119 ” as their latest. Rather than a rap, the song features a catchy chant, lamenting a girl who has done the speaker of the song wrong. The speaker frantically dials 119, the emergency number in South Korea, to declare that “the girl’s a killer.”   SAVE MY LIFE, SAVE MY LIFE. Shortly after RIIZE’s debut, the K-pop community started calling Anton , one of the group’s members, a “ nepo baby .” Anton is the stage name for Lee Chan Yeong (이찬영). His father, Lee Yoon Sang (이윤상) is musician who started his musical career playing bass for singer Kim Wan-sun ’s backing band. In 1900, he began a solo career. After releasing his 2002 album Migration ( 이사 ), he began

In high school,  Kim Sung-kyu , the future leader of the boy band Infinite , had to hide his vocal practice from his parents. In high school he sang in a rock band with some of his friends. When he graduated he left his hometown of Jeonju in hopes of having a career in music in Seoul. After failing an audition for SM Entertainment , he tried out for label Woolim Entertainment . His hope was to be a rock singer like his future label mates,  Nell . On the day of his audition, though, he was suffering from appendicitis. Determined to make it as a singer, he sang through the pain and went to the hospital after the audition finished. Rather than cultivating Kim's rock talents, the record label decided to place him as the leader of the their first boy-band, Infinite. Throughout the group's tenure, they would flirt with rock music; however, it wasn't until Sung-Kyu's debut EP,  Another Me ,  that he would be able to make the kind of music he envisioned.  WHENEVER THIS TIME OF

The moment the talent scout comes to see your _____ and says, "You could be a star" is the moment many of us dreamed of when we were kids. If you believe everyone gets their 15 minutes, you also should realize that there are degrees of fame. The recognizability of a household name like Tom Cruise or Barak Obama compared to an indie rocker demonstrates this. But now, with adult eyes, look at that talent scout. Whether he's a football coach or Simon Cowell, he's certainly not got the best of intentions for your teenage self. And depending on what you're signing up for, there's something that the scout won't tell you. If you put in the work, you may change the world. But it comes at a cost. Your personal life is no longer yours. Your personality, image, and relationships will be a commodity that the press will fight and even pay people for. If you're successful enough, you'll be swimming in non-disclosure agreements, hiding you and your loved ones
