“Siren” by Taeyeon, Tuesday, August 1, 2023 (repost)

Two summers ago,  Taeyeon  released her first single from the album she released on Valentine’s Day last year,  INVU .  The disco-infused lead single, “ Weekend ,” wasn’t completely indicative of the album's style. With a variety of ballads, house, and dance songs,  INVU  is a solid third record from the now legendary former  Girls’ Generation  vocalist. Today’s song, “ Siren ,” is a power ballad located as track 6 of a 13-song album.   It’s a song about an unhealthy relationship that beckons the speaker to stay in it. Ultimately does she dive in or get out of the water?   An ancient painting of sirens in  The Odyssey.  Source . CRUEL FANTASY.  Today’s song, “Siren,” uses the image of a mythical creature from ancient Greek and Roman legends. Creatures with beautiful songs that lure sailors to perilous shallow, rocky waters appear in Homer’s  The Odyssey .  In book 12, Circe advises Odysseus not to listen to their “honey-sweet tones” that “bewitch everybody who approaches them.” But

Taeyeon released the first single to her third album almost three years ago. It's a light, airy disco song all about taking it easy. And after a week like this one, I need to stop over thinking and let my stress melt away. So here's an updated Weekend Vibes  playlist filled with tracks formulated to give you an awesome weekend. I've expanded and substituted some of the tracks to make the playlist better. Let's enjoy the smooth sounds!

“I” by Taeyeon ft. Verbal Jint, Sunday, April 23, 2023 + Spring Vibes Playlist AppleMusic Edition

“ I ” was the first single from the first solo EP, or in K-pop terms mini album, by Taeyeon . The mini album is also named  I .  The Girls’ Generation leader’s solo career has been the most successful of the group, and “I” was a massive hit. Released in 2015, the single features Korean Hip Hop artist Verbal Jint, a rapper who is credited with creating a rhyme structure to Korean hip hop after his debut in the early ‘00s. The combination of Taeyeon’s soaring vocals and Verbal Jint ’s rhythm along with the electric guitar feels extremely uplifting to the listener.  FLY HIGH.   “I”  is a celebration of self, as the song suggests. Taeyeon announces in the lyrics that she will no longer be tied down by confinement of being in the spotlight, but will try to be herself authentically. It’s the kind of song to put on when you feel that you can’t achieve your goals. The song will remind you of all that you have accomplished and help you to focus on the future. It’s the perfect song to listen to

“Let Me Prepare You” by Watashi Wa ft. Gasoline Heart, Thursday, January 19, 2023 + Top 10 albums of 2022 (repost)

Coming to the end of the year, it's time to remember some of the musical highlights of 2022. I listened to a lot of music this year and maybe more new music than last year. But there certainly were albums that slipped under the radar. I had every intention of digging into  The Weeknd 's  Dawn FM   ,  but somehow I was never in that dark of a mood to resonate with the characteristics of that record. Today, I'm going to reveal my controversial list. Enjoy! #10 .  The Loneliest Time  by  Carly Rae Jepsen . The latest from the " Call Me Maybe " singer is a record that isn't immediately catchy and could easily fall between the cracks because of all the big releases of this year. The diverse singles showed different camera angles of a maturing pop singer who has solidified her status in music nerd-dom and gay music listeners alike. And with her first explicit labeled song, Jepsen is distancing herself from former tween-friendly aesthetic. I'm sure next year I

“Time Lapse” by Taeyeon, Saturday, September 17, 2022 (Partial Repost)

Bright, happy music is what you could describe  Taeyeon 's 2015 debut EP,  I .  The label also fits for her debut studio album, 2017's  My Voice .  However, amid the happy, soaring melodies, there is a twinge of wistful nostalgia in the lyrics. Songs like the lead single " Fine " and the standout track " Time Lapse ," give the Girls' Generation singer a mature sound. Taeyeon's solo career is more about ballads, but the occasional electro-pop song sounds more grown up than her bubblegum pop days in the once biggest K-pop girl group. BIRTHDAYS HAVE PASSED SEVERAL TIMES .  The title of Taeyeon's debut album, My Voice,  alludes to her relationship with her standout feature. In middle school, Taeyeon's principal encouraged the young singer to pursue her talents and convinced her parents to invest in their daughter's talents. This investment came to mean a Sunday drive from Jeonju to Seoul, a 2-and-a-half-hour drive each direction, for Taeyeo

“I Can Make You Feel Young Again” by Copeland, Sunday, August 21, 2022

Copeland ’s “ I Can Make You Feel Young Again ” seems like a straight-forward love song. The beautiful lyrics describe love, growing old together, and death in an original, poetic way. The pre-chorus makes the listener feel small in the vastness of time, contrasting the light from stars billions of light years away and the ancient ground, which will “drag us under.” But to Aaron Marsh , this isn’t a straight forward love song. WHEN I FEEL LIKE I’M DEAD, YOU’RE REVIVING ME. The music video (see below) makes Marsh’s vision for “I Can Make You Feel Young Again” clear. Marsh confirms the meaning of the song on an episode of Labeled podcast . The idea of the song is a man is promised youth by a siren, but the siren drowns him. Of course reading the lyrics over and over you won’t be able to get that story from the text alone. But if we place this extra-textual interpretation onto the song, it makes sense that its the song of the siren, promising the fisherman that she can make feel young a

"Weekend" by Taeyeon, Saturday, March 26, 2022 + Weekend Vibes AppleMusic Mix

On Valentine's Day, Taeyeon released her third full-length album, INVU .  This album included her single released last summer " Weekend ," a song about feeling great and enjoying life amidst the everyday hectic routine. Sleeping in late, indulging in coffee and/or cheese cake, and generally "doing whatever I want," "Weekend" is a bubbly K-pop single that welcomes the best two days of the week. And out of a lazy afternoon in bed with my boyfriend singing this song, I chose to be extra lazy and post this track as an excuse to convert my Spotify Friday Vibes  playlist into an AppleMusic Weekend Vibes playlist. Hope you enjoy it! Original tracklist (before future updates): 1. "Weekend" by Taeyeon (the song of the day) 2. " Forest " by Number One Gun 3.  " Take it All Back 2.0 " by Judah & the Lion 4. " Typical " by MUTEMATH 5. " Rings & Roses " by Dabin ft. Conor Byrne 6. " Hymn for the Wee
