“Be Somebody” by Thousand Foot Krutch + Chilly Mix Apple Music, Monday, November 13, 2023

Slowly, Thousand Foot Krutch is coming back to life with their The End Is Where We Begin recording project. The band is releasing a track-by-track rerecording of the album, and each track features another band. The band has not yet released a new version of today’s song, “ Be Somebody .” I can’t remember if “Be Somebody” was released as a single from the album, especially because it was released after I paid attention to Christian radio. However, The End Is Where We Begin " fits the band’s usual formula, with “Be Somebody” being the band’s most standout ballad on the album. This meant that while the hard rock hits would go to RadioU and the ballads would go to Air1 . The mid-tempo track is one of Thousand Foot Krutch’s best slow songs. It features Trevor McNevan’s soaring vocals and the acoustic guitars. WE'RE ALL SEEN THROUGH JUST LIKE GLASS. Today, I'm bringing my Chilly Mix to Apple Music. Again, it's very hard to define what creates this musical quality. But s

Last Wednesday, Tooth & Nail Records posted a teaser on social media listing " Gasoline Heart , Anberlin , Blenderhead , Dogwood , Spoken in Tongues , Freeto Boat , Relient K , Noise Ratchet " along with the title "Love Is the Answer" and Japanese characters. Then on Friday, they announced that there would be a new Watashi Wa album, People! Like People! coming in May, the first new album since their  Eager Seas   project. IT WAS WRITTEN IN A LETTER TO ME. Watashi Wa  was a band signed to Tooth & Nail Records in the early '00s. The band was formed in 2000 when the members were still in high school. After releasing two albums on Betty Rocket, a small label, the band signed to Tooth & Nail in 2002. The next year, they released their LP  The Love of Life .  The band broke up two years later and singer Seth Roberts went on to form the band  Eager Seas . Roberts negotiated with the label to fulfill Watashi Wa's contract with his new band; however,

Creation Festival is the largest Christian music live event in the United States. Starting in 1979 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, the festival’s franchise expanded to include a version for the East Coast and the West Coast, as well as the Sonshine and Icthus Festivals. Creation Festival has featured the biggest names in CCM and Christian Rock. In 2008, the Creation Fest franchise took to the road in a tour headlined by Kutless , Thousand Foot Krutch , and Pillar . Several up-and-coming bands opened or were part of the pre-show. A new band from Boise, Idaho, Esterlyn , were party of that show. Their debut album Lamps represented on stage with several vintage lamps situated around the band’s amps and gear. The band played with a young energy you’d expect from a group of band dudes-turned worship leaders-turned national touring musicians on their first tour. RESTORING ME, GUIDING ME, CLEANSING ME.  I didn’t go to many concerts when I was at Missionary College, partly because Chattan

"Forward Motion" by Thousand Foot Krutch, Thursday, March 25, 2021

The atmosphere is a casual restaurant. You're enjoying your time with your friends. The food just comes out and everyone is in conversation. The background music was something pop, like  Ariana Grande , or something you didn't notice, but all of a sudden,  Thousand Foot Krutch 's " Welcome to the Masquerade " starts blaring on the speaker overhead. Just when you think you'd never hear your college Christian rock in a foreign country, it comes up at a rather inappropriate time, between talking about something that happened to you at work and the second bite of your taco.  IF WE CAN HANG ON WE CAN CROSS THIS OCEAN.  Thousand Foot Krutch has an album formula that they used especially from their fourth album to their sixth. The albums start heavy and have a few poppier songs in the middle. " Forward Motion " is one of the poppier moments on this album, almost as if it's a preview for some of lead singer  Trevor McNevan 's pop-punk project,  FM St

For all of my fantasies about an alternate reality in which I decided to peruse music after high school, the state of the music industry during COVID is certainly something I’m glad I never had to deal with. Imagine being a new band in 2019, releasing your first EP which has earned enough hype to put you on a big tour with a veteran band, only to have that tour canceled. That’s what happened to Welsh brothers Sam and Ben Taylor and their friend Nathan Beaton of Paradise Now. The tour with Disciple may have been canceled, but depending on the state of Covid, they will return to the States with the Juliana Theory. IT’S GETTING OLD. A listen to Paradise Now’s Supernatural is a bit confusing. Sometimes it’s hard rock that gets a little soft with poppy electronic elements like the title track and “Anvmals.” Their hit single “Baptist” plays with a Steve-Milleresque synth intro before taking a hard rock turn. “ WildOnes ” sounds like a Hillsong track until the chorus turns up the electri
