“ Easy” (Remix) by Troye Sivan ft. Kacey Musgraves & Mark Ronson, Sunday, June 9, 2024 (repost)

Last October,  Troye Sivan  released his first full-length record since 2018's  Bloom .   While other pop stars have entered prolific eras with frequent releases, fans have had to wait a long time for new music from Sivan.   His last major release was an EP in 2020 titled  In a Dream ,  but the singer has been releasing singles since then; however, whether or not they will be part of the upcoming work is yet to be disclosed. Sivan's sophomore LP,  Bloom , was a celebration of love and gay sex; however,  In a Dream  is an introspective collection of songs--with the exception of " Stud "--dealing with heartache and a failing relationship.  TELL ME WE'LL MAKE IT THROUGH.  The single " Easy " is the second track on  In a Dream.  The song was  remixed  by producer  Mark Ronson  and features a verse by  Kacey Musgraves . Sivan had appeared on Musgrave's  second Christmas album  in 2019, and the reunion between the two singers on the 2020 single not only co

“In a Dream” by Troye Sivan + Dreaming Playlist, Wednesday, May 15, 2024

In a Dream is Troye Sivan ’s 2020 break-up EP. We’ve looked at Sivan’s breakup with model Jacob Bixenman in our discussion of the song “ Easy .” Rather than giving his audience a full heartbreaking album, Sivan condenses what could be an album of material into 4 of the 7 tracks on the deluxe edition of the extended play. Sivan was certainly due in 2020 for a full album, but with the pandemic and the anxiety listeners already had, four songs might have been a mercy on his listenership. Singles between In a Dream and his 2023 third album Something to Give Each Other , explored the heartbreak a little more but moved on to party mode on last year’s album. Today, we’re going to explore the world of the subconscious as I update my Dreaming playlist. The song “ In a Dream ” is about a dream Troye had of his ex. He told NME that the intense dream woke the singer up crying. Today, we’ll listen to other dreamy songs--hopefully nothing of nightmares. Listen to “Dreaming” on Spotify.

"Rush" by Troye Sivan + Top 23 Songs of 2023 (#20-15), Friday, January 12, 2024

I’m in no rush to finish my post of my top 23 songs of last year. I’m taking my sweet time. But it’s Friday night, and I’m in Soho so I thought I’d post a little bit more, most notably some of the more dance-oriented tracks of the year. The three I posted on New Year’s Day were closer to honorable mentions, but the songs I picked in 20-15 are great but lacking something from pushing them up a little higher--and that something in many cases is the lyrical depth found on songs a little higher on the list. But feeling the rush of a song is certainly a big part of why we like music. Let’s enjoy the weekend! 20. “ Padam, Padam ” by Kylie Minogue kicks off the top 20. I was a little late to the new club classic last year. Listening to a breakdown of the song on Switched On Pop made the very simple song gave me a huge appreciation for not only it, but then I had to listen to Tension , the album Minogue released, and I started revisiting her back catalog. A worthy challenger to "Padam,

“Got Me Started” by Troye Sivan, Wednesday, October 18, 2023

If I could describe the music of this year in one word, I would say that the music of 2023 has been derivative. To some extent, music is always derivative and we could argue that there has been nothing in music since [pick a date].  But a year of derivative music isn’t necessarily a bad year in music. The music from quarantine in 2020 until last year drew on familiarity and nostalgia. Maybe this year familiarity has peaked with the shameless credited interpolation. KINDA MISS USIN’ MY BODY. I discussed the shameless interpolations of David Guetta with “ I’m Good” (Blue) and “ Baby Don’t Hurt Me ” and Jason Derulo ’s “ When Love Sucks ” earlier this year. I talked about how both of those artists' uses of the original material felt like they were forcing nostalgia onto their listeners rather than letting it happen organically. But today, we’re looking at Troye Sivan ’s “ Got Me Started ,” the second single from last week’s Something to Give Each Other . The song borrows the hook fr

“Hold on to Now” by Kylie Minogue, Saturday, September 30, 2023

While Troye Sivan was clubbing in his home of Perth, Australia, between COVID lockdowns, the soundtrack may have included songs by fellow Aussie Kylie Minogue , who has been an iconic pop star for a certain demographic for decades. But it’s not just the gay clubs where Kylie is famous. In fact, she is the highest-selling Australian female artist of all time. In Europe, she is often called the “Princess of Pop” because of her sense of style and her hit-making. In America, mainstream pop audiences probably know Minogue for her 2001 hit “ Can’t Get You Out of My Head ,” which is the singer’s most streamed song.  SOME MOMENTS ARE MAGIC. But pop music is much more than the Weekly Top 40, and the songs popular in Australia and Europe don’t always catch on in America. Kylie Minogue made several hits and even reached her Hot 100 peak before 2002 in the ‘80s with the number 3 hit “ The Loco-Motion ” in 1988 from her eponymous debut album. The song was a cover of a 1962 pop song written by G

It’s been five years since Troye Sivan released his sophomore record, Bloom . Next month, the singer will release his long-anticipated third full-length studio album, Something to Give Each Other . In the heat of northern hemisphere summer, on July 13, the lead single, “ Rush ,” was released with a racy accompanying music video. Along with “Rush” and the album announcement on July 13, Sivan also released the artwork for the upcoming album.  Between the video for “Rush” and the cover art which features Troye Sivan’s head between the thighs of an apparently nude muscular man, it seems that the singer is continuing his horny era which began with his sophomore album.  TRUST THE SIMULATION. The time between Bloom and Something to Give Each Other was unintentional. In 2020, Sivan broke up with his long-term boyfriend, model Jacob Bixenman, which influenced several of the songs on the singer’s late-summer 2020 EP release, In a Dream . But Sivan doesn’t spend the whole EP pining about hi
