“All of Me” by Watashi Wa, Tuesday, April 9, 2024 (updated repost)

Watashi Wa   was a band signed to Tooth & Nail Records in the early '00s. The band was formed in 2000 when the members were still in high school. After releasing two albums on Bettie Rocket , a small label, the band signed to Tooth & Nail in 2002. The next year, they released their LP  The Love of Life .  The band broke up two years later and singer  Seth Roberts  went on to form the band  Eager Seas . Roberts negotiated with the label to fulfill Watashi Wa's contract with his new band; however, Eager Sea's debut record undersold the label's expectations. The label decided to re-release the record as Watashi Wa's final album titled  Eager Seas ,  including the band's most recognized song " All of Me " on the record. Roberts went on to form the band  Lakes  and signed to The Militia Group.    IT WAS WRITTEN IN A LETTER TO ME.  Maybe it was an abundance of incredible releases in 2003 that made Watashi Wa's The Love of Life fall unnoticed from

“Through It All” by Spoken, Sunday, November 5, 2023

Six years after releasing their eponymous sixth album, Spoken released Illusion on E1 Records, a New York-based independent record label. The band began work on their 2013 album back in 2009, recording with Jasen Rauch . By their seventh album, Spoken had become a veteran band, having formed in 1996. The band’s rough recordings on Christian pop star Crystal Lewis ’ label Metro One produced several hits for Christian hard rock radio such as RadioU . Of these recordings, only their 2000 record, Echos of the Spirit Still Dwell is available on Spotify and Apple Music. In 2003, the band signed with Tooth & Nail Records . I SAW THE STORM, FELT THE WINDS BEGIN TO CHANGE.  With the partnership between Spoken and Tooth & Nail Records, the band developed their sound with bigger production budgets. The development of Spoken’s sound over the course of the three Tooth & Nail albums impacted the band until their most recent singles in 2020. Starting with the droll, mid-western roc

“Rewind” by Pillar, Friday, November 3, 2023

Pillar ’s third studio record, Where Do We Go From Here ? , was the band’s stylistic departure from rap-rock. The Oklahoma-based Christian Rock band had begun to breakthrough with their 2002 sophomore record Fireproof , even repacking the album for the general rock market. Pillar worked with producer Travis Wyrick on all of their albums until 2009’s Confessions , and together the band and the producer whose credits include Disciple , Spoken , 10 Years , and P.O.D. crafted an undeniable Pillar sound. The differences between Pillar’s 2002 and 2004 records are mostly the difference in Rob Beckley ’s lead vocal styles. On Where Do We Go From Here?  Beckley exchanges bro-rap for melodic singing and a few well-placed screams—most notably on the lead single, “ Bring Me Down .” IT SEEMS JUST LIKE YESTERDAY. Abandoning the kitschy genre of rap-rock proved a success for Pillar. But it wasn’t just the change in vocal stylings on Pillar’s third album Where Do We Go From Here ? that served as an

“You’re Still Waiting” by Spoken + Spiritual Apple Music Edition, Saturday, September 2, 2023

After listening to the guys at Church Jams Now reviewing Spoken 's 2005 record, Last Chance to Breathe , I revisited their Tooth & Nai l catalogue today. I think that the podcasters gave a fair read to the album, and I talked about it last September when discussing the song " September ." I decided to make my Apple Music Spiritual playlist public today, so my blogging time is mostly cleaning it up. On this playlist, I tried to include Christian and non-Christian songs that I can still listen to today even though my faith has changed from when I started. Some of the songs are guilty pleasures. Others are just good. I'll be updating this playlist a bit, so stay tuned! Read the lyrics on Genius.

“Last Christmas” by Wham! Friday, December 9, 2022 + Christmas Playlist

Today our representative song is Wham!' s " Last Christmas ." Maybe it's overplayed, but it's a synth-pop classic. It's the kind of song that gets stuck in your head for days, and it's okay because it's Christmastime. It's one of the signature songs of Wham!  and one of the most played songs of Christmas. It's been covered by many artists from Jimmy Eat World to Carly Rae Jepsen to Hawk Nelson and each cover has its merit. But today, my Christmas mix begins with the original. Enjoy the mix! 1. "Last Christmas" by Wham! 2. " (Christmas) Baby, Please Come Home " by Anberlin 3. " Wish " by Paper Route  (The band has a bigger Christmas catalogue, just not on Spotify). 4. " Amy, I " by Jack's Mannequin   5. "The Winter Song" by Eisley 6. "Happy Christmas" (War Is Over) by Sent by Ravens 7. " O Holy Night " by Stacie Orrico 8. " I Celebrate the Day " by Relient K
