“You’re Still Waiting” by Spoken + Spiritual Apple Music Edition, Saturday, September 2, 2023

After listening to the guys at Church Jams Now reviewing Spoken's 2005 record, Last Chance to Breathe, I revisited their Tooth & Nail catalogue today. I think that the podcasters gave a fair read to the album, and I talked about it last September when discussing the song "September." I decided to make my Apple Music Spiritual playlist public today, so my blogging time is mostly cleaning it up. On this playlist, I tried to include Christian and non-Christian songs that I can still listen to today even though my faith has changed from when I started. Some of the songs are guilty pleasures. Others are just good. I'll be updating this playlist a bit, so stay tuned!

  No matter how your Monday finds you, let's unwind with an album that meant a lot to me nearly ten years ago, the first spring I spent in Korea. I don't remember what first attracted me to Deas Vail 's third and eponymous album, but once I started listening, I couldn't stop. I also don't know much about where the band members are now, whether or not they remain in music in any capacity. What I do know is that Deas Vail captured a moment perfectly.  1. " Desire ." That being said, Deas Vail begins with my least favorite track. It's not a bad song, and it clearly has the guitar motifs and the husband-wife duet sounds which will be important elsewhere in the album. Lyrically, "Desire" isn't very interesting and it's skip-able. But that's my opinion. "Desire," does, though have the most streams of the album. 2. “The Boys of Summer” by The Ataris, Saturday, August 31, 2024 (reworked repost)

In the summer of 2003, a rock station in LA started playing an inside cut from  The Ataris '  So Long, Astoria ,  an album built on the late '70s and early '80s nostalgia. The band's first single, " In This Diary " reached number 11 on the Modern Rock chart. They were set to release the second single, " My Reply ," but the accidental hit " The Boys of Summer " overshadowed anything the band would produce in their twenty-five-year career. A  cover  of  Don Henley 's 1984 number 1 hit, The Ataris' punk-rock reworking took the single to number 20 on the Hot 100 and number 2 on the Modern Rock chart, unable to beat  Linkin Park 's " Faint ." “Bang, Bang” (My Baby Shot Me Down) by Daniela Andrade, Monday, April 19, 2021

  This is the story of three women and how they interpreted their interpretation of a dream pop classic. The version I chose is a cover, which resembles a cover of this song. Until today, I thought that this song was a Nancy Sinatra original. Played in the opening scene of Kill Bill Vol. 1 , the Bride is shot and left for dead outside a dusty El Paso chapel. This scene kicks off an other delicious installment of Tarantino 's brand of gratuitous violence and overall badassery that the filmmaker is known for. However, if we're looking for the original tune, think a little more sixties psychedelia with more instrumentation. Finally, the version that goes to the YouTube playlist, by a YouTube-famous Canadian-Honduran singer, Daniela Andrade . This song with its simple song structure and easy lyrics, packs a lot of heat.
